Summary Job Goal:The Technical Assistance Program Coordinator provides direct services to our member tribes to develop or create their tribal courts under the direction of the Tribal Justice Program Manager. The position will be responsible for coordinating the technical assistance needed for tribal courts and staff, which includes the code development services, drafting of tribal court policy and template court documents for tribal court use, and supporting the courts in developing regular court calendar. This position, with the assistance of the Department Manager and Legal staff, will develop the process for supporting tribal courts taking on child welfare cases, and will assist the program manager in tracking the implementation of the VAWA PL 280 criminal jurisdiction pilot project. The Technical Assistance Program Coordinator will work with the Manager to seek funding sources for the tribal courts in conjunction with the tribes.

Performance Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Identify all resources available to support the technical assistance needs of the regions tribal courts.
  • Develop technical assistance plans for individual tribal courts depending on need. Set time perimeters and coordinate the TA support and ensure it is provided timely. This includes necessary code development, court forms, court calendar development, and court policies and procedures.
  • Working with PM and Legal support develop the program service for assisting tribes taking children into tribal custody.
  • Assists Manager in tribal court assessment process, coordinating with tribal, federal, and state agencies.
  • Document communications with tribes and service agencies. Keep a file for each active tribal court.
  • Ensures the administrative staff timelines for projects and programs are met by calendaring the events and deadlines for individual projects, assignments, and minimal grant requirements.
  • Perform office admin tasks as needed such as concur travel support, ordering office supplies and other admin duties as assigned.
  • Travel to rural communities routinely and frequently.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of the department and clientele.
