GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. WHAT WOULD YOU DO AS A MECHANIC

The Mechanic position at Golden Valley Electric Association Healy Power Plants is a key role responsible for the maintenance of various power plant mechanical equipment. From turbine generators to piping systems, the Mechanic ensures the reliability and efficiency of essential equipment. This position involves troubleshooting mechanical issues, coordinating with contractors, training Plant Technicians, and potentially working on capital projects.

The Mechanic must be prepared to handle emergency maintenance outside of regular hours and adhere to the high standards set forth in the Personnel Qualifications Checklist (PQC) program. REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS MECHANIC JOB

The successful candidate for the Mechanic position at Golden Valley Electric Association should possess a High School diploma or equivalent, with additional training in first aid or CPR procedures. Preferred qualifications include previous confined space and respirator training, or the ability to become proficient within 30 days of hire. A valid Alaska driver's license is required for this role. Strong technical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment effectively are essential for this position. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to safety protocols and be able to work well both independently and as part of a team.

Additionally, strong communication skills and the willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and technologies are crucial for success in this role.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Valid first aid or CPR cards or the ability to certify for the procedures.
  • Confined space and respirator training preferred or the ability to become proficient in these areas within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license.

Notes: As a condition of employment, successful applicants must become an IBEW member within 30 days after employment.
