Whitman Lake Hatchery Fish Culturist

Full Time, Hourly

Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (SSRAA) is recruiting for full-time fish culturist(s) at the Whitman Lake and Deer Mountain Hatcheries in Ketchikan, Alaska. The Whitman Lake Hatchery program operates both hatcheries producing chinook and coho salmon, is a central incubation facility for summer chum, and manages four remote spring rearing camps in the region. This position

requires workplace flexibility to include fish culture and basic maintenance duties at the hatcheries and requires occasional work at remote camps.

The ideal candidate has the ability to develop healthy working relationships with co-workers and have a willingness to learn and share knowledge and skills. Previous experience in fish husbandry, a closely related field, or as part of past/current education is preferred but SSRAA is willing to train the right applicant. The successful candidate must have or obtain a valid Alaska Drivers license.

The job requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50lbs or more repeatedly, work in inclement weather, and inside around cold running water.

Starting pay is $20.29/hr, DOE. Benefits include: health, dental, vision, life, long-term disability insurance, and participation in a 403b retirement plan. SSRAA is an equal opportunity employer.
