This is a seasonal position with an anticipated annual work season of April through October. This announcement will be used to fill one Groundskeeper - Seasonal vacancy at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery - Redwood Falls.

This position is responsible for performing a variety of grounds, equipment and building maintenance duties involving the extensive use of motorized equipment and vehicles. The position also participates in interment operations at a State Veterans Cemetery.

Perform groundskeeping tasks during the growing season so that the State Veterans Cemetery grounds are aesthetically pleasing and safe for the visiting public and other state employees.

Maintain cemetery parking lots, roadways, exterior pedestrian walkways and cemetery flower/water stations in a clean, safe condition so that they remain pleasing and functional to all clientele.

Participate in interment operations as assigned or required by workload or seasonal conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of

  • Groundskeeping practices/techniques sufficient to assist in planting, pruning trees, plants, shrubs and turf.

  • Hand and power tools and landscaping equipment sufficient to safely and effectively operate and perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs.

  • Safety and accident prevention measures sufficient to identify safety hazards, make necessary repairs, and/or alert appropriate personnel.

Ability to

  • Operate motorized vehicles (e.g., trucks, mowers) and equipment (e.g., chainsaws, weed whips, tamper, etc.)

  • Effectively communicate with the public and other employees

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experienced with any repair, maintenance, fabrication or installation work.

  • Experience with basic fertilizer application.

  • Cemetery groundskeeping experience

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams

Physical Requirements

The ability to regularly move, transport, position, install, and remove a variety of items weighing up to 50 lbs. unassisted and over 50 lbs. with the assistance of another person while positioning self to move in all directions; with or without reasonable accommodations.
