Job Summary

The Certified Peer Counselor Outreach Community Safety Case Manger will serve youth and families affected by gun violence and/or group/gang involvement, involvement with the juvenile justice system, within King County and unincorporated areas of King County. The CPC/CM will connect youth and families to services, resources, social and wellbeing support, and working toward freeing their lives of violence and system services involvement. This position requires intensive and coordinated responses to youth participants and community members experiencing trauma from acts of violence at various sites including but not limited to detention facilities, hospitals, and vigils during evenings and weekends as required.

You will collaborate with co-workers, supervisors, outside professionals, and others to provide services in client homes, schools, community centers, or other convenient community locations. You will complete assessments and create service plans that mitigate risk factors. You will encourage youth participants to actively engage in services to build protective factors and life skills that promote self-efficacy.

Hiring Range: $24.00 - $26.40/hr

Responsibilities

  1. Fulfill the duties as assigned by each contract of the Violence Prevention Program.

  2. Developcollaborative relationships withyouth participantsand community memberstosupport andengagethem inthe Safe Passage Program’sestablishedsafetyprotocols.

  3. Documentallactivities related to program participants in Credible(EHR)dailytomaintainclient filesin accordance withgrant andlicensing requirements.

  4. Be apprised ofcommunity violence, tension and gang conflicts and communicate information in real time to supervisor,appropriate safetyagencies andtoall VP teams.

  5. Monitor designated “safety zones” thatinclude localneighborhoods, school zones and community centersduring peak times(i.e.: before/after school,community events).

  6. Provide supervision andarrange forsafe transition for students/youth from school to next destination(i.e.:home, bus stop/light rail), after school activityorprogram.

  7. Providecommunication dailyleadershipregardingany incidents or suspicious activity.

  8. Ifjob assigned,respondimmediatelyto “ShotsFired” incidents alongside SPDand First Respondersat incident sites withincontractedcommunities.

  9. Available to workallassigned shiftsthatincludea minimum of two evenings (8 pm) a week.

  10. Provide intensiveand coordinated responsestoyouth participantsand communitymembersexperiencingtrauma fromacts ofviolenceatvarioussites includingbut not limited todetentionfacilities,hospitals,andvigilsduring evenings and weekends asrequired.

  11. Activelyparticipatesin community events,VP organized eventandpromote safety and peace.

  12. Provide mediationassistancein escalating situations.

  13. Complete andsubmitaccuratetimesheetbydesignateddue date.

  14. Complete andsubmitaccuratereimbursement formswithin designatedtimeframe.

Participant Engagement Responsibilities

  1. Develop collaborativerelationshipswith local schools and community centers/hubs toidentifyyouth that may require services.

  2. Learnandutilize“street outreach strategies,”toidentify/engage“at-risk”youthinprogram services.

  3. Completeassessmentsfor every youth assignedtocaseload todeterminerisks, needs, and goalplanning.

  4. Upon completion ofassessment, createsafetyplanto reduce the risk of youth engaging in violence, gang activity, and/or criminal activity.

  5. Develop safetyplanswhichincludecommunity-based services that addressbothprogram andyouthparticipants’self-identified needs,goals,andplan ofactiontoaddress andeliminatebarriers.

  6. Provide support and guidance toassistyouthparticipantsinengagingin services andofferings ofculturally responsivecommunity partnersandagencies.

  7. Advocate for services on behalf of youth participants bysubmittingreferrals,scheduling,andattending intake appointmentsand/or meetingswith community-based service providers.

  8. Meet with youth participantsatcommunity-basedlocations including but not limited toschools, homes,andcommunitycenters.

  9. Meet with youthparticipantsassigned tocaseloadas stipulated(i.e.: twice weekly).

  10. Document allassessment andsafetyplanactivitiesinCredible.

  11. Review Crediblenotes daily to ensureprogress towardSafety PlanGoals andaccuratedocumentation.

Qualifications

  1. Be a Certified Peer Counselor (CPC) or complete CPC classes and pass the WA State test within 6 months of hireorhave abachelor’sdegree or equivalent experience in social work, social services, or a closely related field.

  2. Professionaland/or livedexperience overcoming barriers that the program’s client population is currently facing, includingviolenceor having beenimpactedbygroups/gangsand/orthe justicesystem.

  3. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

  4. Strong ties to the local community and existing relationships with community members

  5. Familiar with gangs/group activity in the target community and has the skills to work effectively with high-risk teenagers and young adults.

  6. Comfortable and willing to work in high-risk community settings at nontraditional hours. Available toparticipatein evening and weekend work activities.

  7. Experience serving diverse communities (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

  8. Knowledge of localcommunity-basedagencyprograms and services (schools, social services, law enforcement, courts/corrections), local units of government, and grassroots organizations

  9. Be willing to learn and become competent using Microsoft Office Suite and other job-related software programs.

  10. Ability toeffectivelycommunicateverbally and in writing.

  11. Access to reliable transportationrequired.
