The Holland America Group is currently searching for a highly motivated Technical Operations Manager who will provide operational project management support in the maintenance and repair of assigned ships in a safe, compliant, efficient and cost effective manner, ensuring the good condition and availability of the ships and their machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational management support for the Technical Operations Director for assigned group of vessels.

  • Operational Management duties including, but not limited to:

  • Ship site surveys

  • Determine project scope of work and define work breakdown structure

  • Write job specifications in DMS as required

  • Research and selection of technical equipment

  • Estimate costs and develop project budget

  • Raise request for capital expenditure and requisitions in AMOS

  • Produce and modify ship plans with submission to relevant authorities for approval

  • Liaise with Flag State and Class Surveyors to obtain full approval of project design, equipment and installation, while ensuring adherence to all regulations

  • Select contractors for project work and direct contractors during project implementation

  • Manage projects to ensure they are completed on time; control costs to ensure project is completed within budget

  • Maintain project files for central filing system to ensure historical record of all projects completed

  • Support Ship Technical Operations Director during dry docks and wet docks.

  • Deputize for Technical Operations Director as required.

  • Other duties as required as defined in the Technical Operations Manager responsibility matrix as assigned by the Fleet Technical Operations Director. Duties may include, but are not limited to, independent direct management of specified group of assigned ships.

Requirements

  • Marine/Engineering or Electrical Degree or Class 1 qualifications required.

  • Two plus years of experience in marine related industry.

  • Familiarity with ship regulations and rules.

  • Solid project management and relationship building experience to pull together and manage shipboard and shore side technical and commercial teams.

  • Experience in project cost analysis and detailed return on investment calculations working with purchasing departments.

  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to maintain agreed project deadlines and budgets.

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with shipboard and shoreside management, employees, shipyards and sub-contractors.

  • Self-starter capable of working under their own initiative and as part of a larger team with regular reporting and feedback communication.

  • Highly proficient in the use of computer business applications, internet technology and project planning and management tools.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for negotiating, presenting and resolving complex technical, inter-personal and commercial issues.

  • Ability to travel, both domestically as well as internationally, approximately 30 %.
